Assessments
|

Beyond the Classroom works
in partnership with Psychologists and a
Psychometrist to complete a full
psycho-educational assessment for your
child. The assessment will include valid and
reliable measures of processes that have
been found to have a major impact on
learning.
What is a Psycho-Educational Assessment
for?
Typically a student’s school will recommend
a psycho-educational assessment be completed
if issues arise related to significant
learning delays, suspected attention
disorders and other exceptionalities.
The assessment has two specific purposes:
-
To provide specific
information on aspects of a child’s
functioning, including cognitive
abilities, academic achievement and
behavioural & social-emotional
functioning.
-
To provide
recommendations based on the results of
the assessment that lead to specific
programming. These recommendations may
include accommodations and
modifications.
What is the process for
the psycho-educational assessment?
Meetings will take place with the
psychologist and the family, and then with
the student alone. The student will also be
given a series of diagnostic tests to
complete related to their academics and
social-emotional & behavioural areas. Once
the testing is complete, the psychological
associate will review the information that
has been collected and write a report. The
psychologist then reviews the report and
verifies the recommendations. The final step
is a meeting with the family to discuss the
results.
There are few organizations who offer this
service in Halton and we pride ourselves on
a very short wait time to see your child and
get the answer you need.
What do I do with the results?
The results will inform your child’s
Individual Education Plan (IEP) at school
and is a great source of information for
planning your child’s academic path. This is
a true investment in your child’s future and
can really help identify your child’s needs
in the school system.
What are the cost & payment details?
If you have employment benefits that cover
the use of a Psychologist, you can use these
to subsidize a portion, if not all, of the
assessment. A thorough assessment will cost
$2000 to $2500 depending on the extent of
the testing.
A 50% deposit is required at the time of
booking and the remainder of the payment is
due 30 days after the final meeting with the
Psychologist, where you will be given the
results of the assessment.
The deposit can be made by cheque or credit
card.
